(KGET) \u2014 The Tehachapi City Council could appoint a new council member on Monday, according to the meeting agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Councilman Michael Davies, who represented District 3, resigned Jan. 20. His term was set to expire after the November 2028 election, according to the agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.kget.com\/plus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Watch \u2018After Sunrise\u2019 on KGET+; Click to learn how to get KGET+ on your smart TV devices;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> Watch \u2018After Sunrise\u2019 on KGET+; Click to learn how to get KGET+ on your smart TV devices <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The new member appointed by the City Council will only serve until the November 2026 election. The elected candidate will fill in at that point, city officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The city only received one application for this current appointment from Marianna Gutierrez, a resident and registered voter of District 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Gutierrez is a real estate agent in Tehachapi and has been serving as the city treasurer since 2022, according to the application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She is enrolled in the Nursing program at Unitek College in Bakersfield and has a bachelor\u2019s in Psychology from Cal State Northridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI want to be a council member who is accessible, practical, and focused on balanced progress \u2014 protecting the small-town character we love while planning responsibly for infrastructure, safety, and economic opportunity,\u201d Gutierrez said in a letter to the City Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/kern-county-traffic-officer-luther-193945103.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Kern County traffic officer Luther Hogan, killed in the line of duty, honored by CHP;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Kern County traffic officer Luther Hogan, killed in the line of duty, honored by CHP <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cDistrict 3 deserves a representative who listens first, communicates clearly, and makes decisions with long-term community impact in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If the City Council appoints Gutierrez on Monday, she would be sworn in at the meeting and finish the meeting as a council member.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The City Council is set to meet at 6 p.m. March 2 in the Tehachapi Police Department Emergency Operations Center at 220 W.
