\u2018Enigmatic\u2019 music<\/p>\n

With its \u201cEnigmatic Voice\u201d program, Symphony San Jose brings together three widely recognized classical works that have had a lasting musical impact, though in different ways.<\/p>\n

All three works are tied to specific historical and cultural moments or traditions.<\/p>\n

Originally commissioned for the coronation of King George II, Handel\u2019s patriotic anthem\u00a0\u201cZadok the Priest\u201d\u00a0has been sung at every British coronation since 1727.<\/p>\n

Written in 1936 as the world teetered on the brink of world war, Vaughan Williams\u2019 \u201cDona Nobis Pacem\u201d\u00a0(\u201cGrant us Peace\u201d) blends the Roman Catholic liturgy with the poetry of Walt Whitman.<\/p>\n

First performed in 1899, Edward Elgar\u2019s\u00a0\u201cEnigma Variations\u201d is a musical portrait of the composer\u2019s closest friends woven together with an \u201cunheard\u201d melody.<\/p>\n

The concerts are set for\u00a0Saturday, March 7, at 7:30p.m. and Sunday, March 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the California Theatre, 345 S. First St. in downtown San Jose.<\/p>\n

Music Notes\u00a0occur one hour prior to the concert and feature an informative discussion about the music to be featured during the performance.<\/p>\n

ROSE GARDEN>>Playful People Productions\u00a0is accepting registration for its summer programs in June and July.<\/p>\n

Programs include two Junior Theatre sessions for kids ages 4-7; a production of \u201cAladdin KIDS\u201d for ages 6-10; two productions of \u201cMadagascar JR,\u201d one for ages 6-10 and the other for ages 11-15; a Design and Build Camp for ages 12-16; a production of \u201cYou\u2019re a Good Man, Charlie Brown\u201d for ages 16 and older; and an Adult Summer Camp for ages 16 and up.<\/p>\n
