Hundreds of neighbors\u00a0from Ingleside attended the Lunar New Year Celebration Saturday afternoon at the Unity Plaza between the Whole Foods and City College.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Performers, vendors, and politicians of every stripe participated in the celebration. While artists painted kids\u2019 faces and children fished for prizes, District 11 congressional candidates Connie Chan and Scott Weiner stumped in Cantonese to win over votes. Mayor Daniel Lurie roused the\u00a0crowd\u00a0with \u201cLet\u2019s go San Francisco!\u201d <\/p>\n

Behind the political stage, performers rehearsed their moves. Chinese\u00a0folk dancers in traditional\u00a0red jackets and flowing\u00a0blue trousers went through the paces, flashing red cotton peonies. Ignoring the\u00a0dancers, women in traditional\u00a0qi pao,\u00a0form-fitting gowns going back to Manchuria,\u00a0preened to\u00a0look their\u00a0best. <\/p>\n

Older attendees jammed vendor booths to get their\u00a0Lunar New Year \u201cpassport\u201d card stamped for the chance to win a $10 voucher good at Ingleside businesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An hour into the event, there was no letting up at the party.<\/p>\n
