The Taft Wildcats will face off against the Bakersfield Drillers at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Taft is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they’ve averaged 7 runs per game this season.

While Taft’s win against California City wasn’t quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats won by a run and slipped past the Ravens 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

The team relied heavily on Ben Nuncio, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Mason Montes also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Bakersfield made easy work of Bishop Union on Saturday and carried off an 11-1 victory.

Peter Dunlap made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter’s box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Caleb Singh and Nathan Montoya did most of the damage at the plate: Singh went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Montoya went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. Those three runs gave Singh a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Koby Romero, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Bakersfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Union only posted an OBP of .300.

Bakersfield now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Taft, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
