(La Rue Field)<br \/>\nRecords: UC Davis 10-8, San Jose State 5-14<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe short story: Behind six shutout innings from <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/ashley-sawai\/20092\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20092\" target=\"_blank\">Ashley Sawai<\/a>, UC Davis softball opened the its final day at the Capital Classic by knocking off future Mountain West counterpart San Jose State in a noon showdown in Davis.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nLEADING OFF<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tSawai gave up just five hits, allowing no walks and no runs in her six shut down frames of work&#13;<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/maia-scholtens\/20505\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20505\" target=\"_blank\">Maia Scholtens<\/a> wrapped things up with a clean frame, allowing just one base runner&#13;<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/alyssa-dethlefson\/20082\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20082\" target=\"_blank\">Alyssa Dethlefson<\/a> led off once again, setting the pace going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one stolen base&#13;<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/gia-felice\/20083\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20083\" target=\"_blank\">Gia Felice<\/a> was a solid 2-for-2, with one RBI and one double&#13;<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/marley-panziera\/20088\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20088\" target=\"_blank\">Marley Panziera<\/a> provided power for the Aggies, smashing a triple while knocking in a run\u00a0&#13;<\/p>\n<p>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Aggies did not take long to jump ahead of San Jose State early, and after Sawai sat down the Spartans in order the stage was set&#13;<br \/>\n\tDethlefson led off with a single and after being sacrificed over to second she awaited her chance to round home&#13;<br \/>\n\tThat chance came with two outs and Panziera at the dish, and after seeing a pair of pitches the Aggie shortstop smashed a triple down the right line that scored Panziera and put the Aggies up 1-0 right from the start&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn the second <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/kayla-macias\/20086\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20086\" target=\"_blank\">Kayla Macias<\/a> brought home <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/sydney-polli\/20089\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20089\" target=\"_blank\">Sydney Polli<\/a> with a 2-out single to make it 2-0 two innings into the game&#13;<br \/>\n\tAfter yet another 1-2-3 frame manufactured by Sawai, the Aggies added another run in the bottom half of the third when Dethlefson (single; stolen base; moved over) was brought home on a <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/keira-brady\/20080\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20080\" target=\"_blank\">Keira Brady<\/a> sacrifice fly to make it 3-0&#13;<br \/>\n\tOne more in the fifth came when Felice doubled home Macias from second base to make it 4-0&#13;<br \/>\n\tFor Sawai the Aggie offense did more than enough as the UC Davis hurler was nearly unhittable and in her final inning of work, she once again sat down the Spartans in order&#13;<br \/>\n\tAnd after Scholtens finished off the seventh, the Aggies had earned a 4-0 win to open their Sunday\u00a0&#13;<\/p>\n<p>TICKETS: General admission for all games runs $13 while youth (3-13), UC Davis staff members and fans Seniors (65+) can get in the door for $10.
