{"id":200668,"date":"2026-03-02T16:01:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T16:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/200668\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T16:01:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T16:01:07","slug":"ebay-slashes-hundreds-of-bay-area-jobs-mainly-at-san-jose-head-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/200668\/","title":{"rendered":"eBay slashes hundreds of Bay Area jobs, mainly at San Jose head office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN JOSE \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/tag\/ebay\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eBay<\/a> has slashed hundreds of jobs in the Bay Area, primarily at the tech titan\u2019s San Jose headquarters complex, the company reported.<\/p>\n<p>The e-commerce company has eliminated 271 Bay Area jobs, the information posted by the state Employment Development Department shows.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/02\/23\/tech-economy-jobs-google-apple-bay-area-san-jose-layoff-ai-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">eBay job cuts arrive on the heels of the net loss of 27,300 tech jobs in the Bay Area<\/a> during 2025, according to Beacon Economics industry estimates that were derived from the state EDD\u2019s official reports.<\/p>\n<p>The tech job cuts in 2025 marked the third straight year of employment losses for the region\u2019s tech workers. The 2025 staffing reductions, however, were much less than the industry\u2019s losses in the Bay Area in 2023 and 2024, Beacon\u2019s figures show.<\/p>\n<p>The eBay layoffs affect 243 jobs in San Jose and another 28 positions in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>The South Bay job cuts eliminated the roles of eBay workers at the company\u2019s headquarters site on Hamilton Avenue in south San Jose, the EDD reported.<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs took effect on Feb. 25, according to the WARN report.<\/p>\n<p>eBay has been cutting jobs for years in the Bay Area, as reported previously by this news organization. In four rounds of staffing reductions that include this year\u2019s layoffs, eBay has cut 949 Bay Area jobs, EDD WARN notices show.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2020\/01\/22\/ebay-chops-102-bay-area-jobs-san-jose-tech-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">eBay eliminated 102 jobs<\/a>, the company reported. In 2023, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2023\/02\/07\/ebay-san-jose-bay-area-job-cut-tech-layoff-facebook-google-twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">e-commerce company cut another 189<\/a> Bay Area positions.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024 came the largest round of the current crop of layoffs, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2024\/01\/24\/ebay-to-cut-1000-jobs-reduce-contractors-to-sharpen-focus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">eBay decided to eliminate 391 jobs<\/a> in the Bay Area.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s job cuts are part of an eBay effort to realign workers as it shifts corporate gears, the company stated.
