The Brea Mall<\/a> has updated its lineup of new stuff \u2026 with some new stores and eateries open now and others due by summer.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what\u2019s open and coming to the mall\u2019s new exterior wing<\/a>:<\/p>\n

The Melt: The comfort food menu features burgers, grilled-cheese sandwiches, French fries, mac n\u2019 cheese, milkshakes, soups and salads.<\/p>\n

EverEve: Women\u2019s apparel.<\/p>\n

Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods, Williams-Sonoma and Pacific Catch (sustainable seafood restaurant) and North Italia (Italian restaurant) are all due by spring.<\/p>\n

The dumpling chain Din Tai Fung is due by summer. The company recently unveiled its latest restaurant at Irvine Spectrum Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The upscale Korean barbecue restaurant Kalbi Social Club also is opening this summer. The chain is best known for its kalbi (short ribs) cooked at tabletop grills.<\/p>\n

For the main interior of the mall, a host of new merchants also are either open or debuting soon:<\/p>\n

HeyTea is open now, featuring signature drinks like the Grape Boom, blending tea with fruit.<\/p>\n

TravisMathew: golf apparel.<\/p>\n

Kebab Lab: Mediterranean street food in bowls and wraps.<\/p>\n

Later in the year:<\/p>\n

Caitlyn Minimalist: a local jewelry brand.<\/p>\n

Palmetto Superfoods: Brazilian acai bowls and smoothies.<\/p>\n

Sanlejur: everyday jewelry essentials in 14k gold, sterling silver and waterproof stainless steel.<\/p>\n

Opening next year:<\/p>\n

Shibuyala: A Japanese beauty retailer that sells J-beauty and Korean-beauty products.<\/p>\n

The mall is undergoing a multimillion-dollar overhaul<\/a> that has seen the addition of a new wing with outdoor access to shops and restaurants. The mall itself got a new entrance, and the former Sears and its parking lots were converted to the apartment complex Avalon Brea Place.<\/p>\n

Other new offerings include a Rivian showroom, the Japanese apparel brand UNIQLO, fashion retailer Purificaci\u00f3n Garcia, The North Face (outdoors gear and apparel), Alo Yoga (luxury activewear), and the Swedish fast-fashion chain H&M.<\/p>\n

The newest wing will be the future home of the luxury gym Life Time, Din Tai Fung, Zara and North Italia.<\/p>\n

\nCrafters studio opens in Huntington Beach<\/p>\n

The membership-based Sew Cal Craft Studio is open in Huntington Beach, offering a crafting environment for the makers community.<\/p>\n

The space \u2014 across the street from 5 Points Plaza and Trader Joe\u2019s \u2014 invites members of all skill levels in sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, quilting, doll and teddy bear making, needle felting and painting.<\/p>\n

In addition to monthly memberships, the studio offers drop-in sew sessions and \u201ccurated craft supplies\u201d for sale.<\/p>\n

Memberships range from single-day passes for $35 up to $150 for unlimited monthly access. A $75 monthly membership is available for select 3.5-hour time slots during the day.<\/p>\n

Participants at Sew Cal Craft do not need to be members to take classes, according to studio founder Jaimee Gerard.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur vision for Sew Cal Craft Studio is to create a space where creativity, learning, and connection come together,\u201d Gerard said via email. \u201cBy limiting memberships, we\u2019re able to maintain an intimate, welcoming atmosphere where every member feels supported while still keeping classes open to the broader community. Providing a well-stocked craft room also removes barriers so members can focus on creativity rather than gathering supplies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those who do join will have access to a craft room that comes stocked with shared tools, equipment and a wide variety of materials.<\/p>\n

Jorge Cardenas is the newly appointed dean of Westcliff University\u2019s College of Business. The Irvine university said he brings \u201cextensive experience\u201d as a professor, department chair and assistant dean. The university said Cardenas, who was born and raised in San Diego near the border with Mexico, has an appreciation for international collaboration and cross-cultural exchange. Previously he was at the Forbes School of Business & Technology at the University of Arizona\u2019s Global Campus where he was assistant dean and professor and department chair.<\/p>\n

Jennifer Medina is the new chief people and culture officer at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County in Irvine. She comes with at least 17 years of human resources experience and previously spent six years at Charitable Ventures, and before that was at Silverado Senior Living, Goodwill of Orange County and New Directions for Women. Medina replaces long-time HR Director Jane VanDyke, who retired in December after 16 years with Second Harvest.<\/p>\n
