An Anaheim school district is teaming up local laundromats to provide credits for students in need so they can have access to clean clothes.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Anaheim Union High School District\u2019s (AUHSD) board members unanimously approved the partnership as part of the district\u2019s effort to support \u201cthe whole student,\u201d it said in a post online. \u201cThe whole student\u201d refers to supporting children\u2019s needs outside their studies by providing them with resources so they can focus on their academics.<\/p>\n
The latest resource of focus for the district is clean clothing, which will be accessible as the district works with Superior Laundry and LaundryUp.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey want to make sure their students’ basic needs are being met before they go into the classroom,\u201d said Patrick Lee, who co-owns Superior Laundry.<\/p>\n
In teaming up with AUHSD, Lee and his family business are providing nearly $9,000 worth of vouches to students and their families so they can access free laundry services at his two Anaheim laundry facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just think with so many families juggling multiple jobs, rising costs, this program really helps eliminate one area of stress for families,\u201d Lee said.<\/p>\n
Students who are in need of help will be given a laundry card loaded with credits, laundry detergent and fabric softener.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just want to be a good neighbor in the community and our business model is \u2018do well by doing good,\u2019\u201d said Howard Lee, who co-owns Superior Laundry. \u201cHopefully, we can do more with other districts and so on and so forth.\u201d<\/p>\n
