President Donald Trump<\/a> has shared damning \u201cbefore and now\u201d footage of San Francisco, contrasting its purported golden past with its apocalyptic present under Gov. Gavin Newsom.<\/p>\n

The short clip featured a split-screen display of city street life, with the top half displaying pre-war San Fran and the bottom half showing recent footage of strung-out junkies and crime.<\/p>\n

It was shared by the president on his Truth Social<\/a> page Sunday evening, quickly racking up 10,000s of likes and \u201cretruths.\u201d<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t clear exactly when the \u201cbefore\u201d footage of San Francisco<\/a> was filmed.<\/p>\n

The clip was accompanied by a distorted, pitch-altered rendition of the 1967 hippy classic, \u201cSan Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)\u201d by Scott McKenzie, evoking the city\u2019s \u201cSummer of Love\u201d heyday.<\/p>\n

Trump has frequently condemned the Democrats\u2019 mismanagement of San Francisco, describing it as formerly \u201cone of the best cities in the world\u201d during the 2024 election campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t go into San Francisco. It\u2019s not livable. Fifteen years ago, it was the best city in the country, one of the best cities in the world, and now you can\u2019t do anything,\u201d the then-Republican candidate told reporters at an event in Arizona in August 2024.<\/p>\n

He also condemned Gov. Newsom as \u201cgrossly incompetent\u201d regarding his handling of California\u2019s \u2014 and more specifically \u2014 San Francisco\u2019s so-called doom loop of urban decay, business closures and declining tax revenues.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew Gavin for four years. I got along great with him. But he\u2019s gone radical left,\u201d Trump told Fox News\u2019 Laura Ingraham<\/a> during a November 2025 interview, also laying into the botched California High Speed Rail<\/a> project meant to connect LA with San Francisco.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, he\u2019s building a train system from San Francisco to LA that\u2019s got about a 2,000 or 3,000% cost overrun. It\u2019s the worst thing I\u2019ve [ever seen]. I\u2019ve never seen anything like it,\u201d Trump added.<\/p>\n
