Dozens of anti-war protesters filled the intersection of Broadway and 16th Street in Sacramento on Monday, joining coordinated demonstrations in cities across the country<\/a> after the Trump administration launched strikes on Iran.<\/p>\n

Organizers said they feared the attack could pull the United States into a broader war in the Middle East.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chants of \u201cNo boots on the ground, no bombs in the air \u2014 U.S. out of everywhere\u201d echoed through the street as cars honked in support.<\/p>\n

Soulana Glass with the Democratic Socialists of America helped organize the Sacramento rally. She said the U.S. should focus on domestic challenges instead of escalating conflict overseas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no reason that the U.S. should be meddling into foreign affairs when we are struggling so much here domestically,\u201d Glass said. \u201cHuman dignity is worth more than whatever capital they hope to gain from another forever war in the Middle East.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Margie Harrell, 46, said she attended the protest to prevent what she sees as unnecessary bloodshed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI started as an activist for my children and it\u2019s just grown to be an activist for everyone\u2019s children,\u201d Hrarrel said. \u201cThese children that are dying in Gaza and Iran now \u2014 I\u2019m just beside myself with grief as a mother.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Harrell said she\u2019s disappointed with members of Congress from both parties, calling their responses to the conflict \u201catrocious.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey can talk and talk, but they won\u2019t do anything,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tim Sandoval, 72, is a Vietnam War veteran. He said the U.S. should avoid wars that prop up what he described\u00a0 as \u201ccorrupt governments.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAll we do is we end up creating more and more people that hate our guts,\u201d Sandoval said. \u201cThey don\u2019t think democracy is such a great idea when they\u2019re busy being bombed and shot. It makes no sense.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sandoval added that he believes the conflict is driven by oil interests.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Trump administration has defended the strikes, citing concerns about regime change, terrorism and preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons<\/a>. However, critics say the administration\u2019s messaging has been inconsistent in the days since the attacks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Monday\u2019s rally in Sacramento was part of a broader national response spearheaded by the Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition.<\/p>\n
