The pair previously opened Ohlone Cafe in 2018, and then later, \u2018ottoytak, a restaurant at the Hearst Anthropology Museum at UC Berkeley. The new cafe recently opened to the public and serves an Ohlone salad, which includes pine nuts, black walnuts, blackberries, dried strawberries, and edible flowers; smoked duck sandwiches; and chia seed puddings. They plan to have a seasonal menu. The cafe is a part of a larger \u2018ottoy initiative to foster respect for the Ohlone people, which also includes a native plant garden in the museum\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencehallofscience.org\/exhibits\/outdoor-nature-lab\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Outdoor Nature Lab<\/a>. \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/lawrencehallofscience.org\/events\/ammatka-cafe-opening\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ammatka at Lawrence Hall of Science<\/a>, 1 Centennial Dr., Berkeley.<\/p>\n<p>Cafe Bolita<\/p>\n<p>The highly-anticipated cafe from the creator of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bolitamasa.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bolita Masa<\/a> has soft opened with a limited menu and hours. A grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, owner Emmanuel Galvan told NOSH. According to the cafe\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DRvNMDKEtcc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>, they plan to serve \u201ccoffee, champurrado\/atoles, tamales, lil burros, chilaquiles, quesadillas, guisos, aguas frescas and so much more.\u201d They eventually plan to open a dinner service as well. Located in the former space of the beloved Standard Fare inside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeleyside.org\/2019\/04\/18\/the-berkeley-kitchens-an-epicenter-for-some-of-the-east-bays-best-food-makers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Berkeley Kitchens<\/a>, Bolita Masa had been a tenant inside the commercial space for the past few years. Look out for full details and more on Galvan\u2019s story from NOSH next week. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cafebolita.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cafe Bolita<\/a>, 2701 Eighth St., Ste. 118, Berkeley.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chef Janice Dulce of FOB Kitchen in Oakland\u2019s Temescal\u2019s neighborhood has soft opened her outpost in West Oakland at Prescott Market\u2019s food hall. Named FOB West, the menu will differ from FOB Kitchen, with more of a focus on affordability and dishes from Guam, where chef\/owner Janice Dulce grew up. Some of the most popular Filipino dishes from FOB Kitchen will also be on the menu, and soft opening offerings have included a chopped salad, pancit and both pork and vegetarian lumpia options. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prescottmarket.com\/market\/fob-west\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FOB West<\/a>, Prescott Market, 1620 18th St., Oakland<\/p>\n<p>Jolly Cafe<\/p>\n<p>The cafe that replaced Oakland Chinatown\u2019s Boba Binge is now open. The menu is somewhat similar to Boba Binge\u2019s, including Vietnamese coffee and matcha, Vietnamese spring rolls, and Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches. In addition, they serve some unique drinks, such as ones with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUZD81AD9ZI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sweet mung bean<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/jollycafe.oakland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jolly Cafe<\/a>, 1004 Webster St., Oakland.<\/p>\n<p>Ox 9<\/p>\n<p>A new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVNC5VljZdd\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lanzhou-style noodle joint<\/a> has opened near the Cal campus. Ox 9 first opened locations in 2017 in the South Bay (Milpitas, and later Cupertino), and currently has a few other Bay Area restaurants including in Fremont, San Mateo, and now Berkeley. The chewy, handpulled noodles come in six sizes at Ox 9, from \u201csmall round\u201d to \u201cbelt flat\u201d noodles. Known as \u201cla mien,\u201d or pulled noodles, the famed dish from Gansu province in China is typically served in a clear beef broth. Ox 9, 2404 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley.<\/p>\n<p>Rice Dynasty<\/p>\n<p>Rice Dynasty, a new lotus steamed sticky rice food spot near the UC Berkeley campus \u2013 next door to Noodle Dynasty on Telegraph Avenue \u2013 has opened.
