After talk that Kiefer Sherwood<\/a> could land back on the trade block, it appears he will be staying with the San Jose Sharks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll signs point to Kiefer Sherwood<\/a> signing an extension in the next day or two rather than getting dealt by the Sharks ahead of the deadline,\u201d TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun wrote Wednesday in The Athletic. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been serious progress in negotiations on a multi-year deal between Sherwood and the team, per league sources. That was always the best outcome for everyone involved after the Sharks acquired the pending UFA on Jan. 19. He\u2019s a great fit in San Jose.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speculation around Sherwood\u2019s future seemed to start soon after he was acquired by San Jose from the Vancouver Canucks<\/a> for defenceman Cole Clayton<\/a> and two second-round picks in January.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old winger has appeared in just five games with the Sharks, posting a goal and an assist Tuesday against the Montreal for his first points with the team. He had 17 goals and 23 points in 44 games with Vancouver before the trade. <\/p>\n

Having posted a career-best 19 goals and 40 points in 78 games last year, Sherwood is reportedly seeking a contract extension in the range of $5 million per season.<\/p>\n

The Sharks remain in the playoff race, sitting three points back of the Seattle Kraken<\/a> for the final wild-card spot with a game in hand.
