A man died early Wednesday after a shooting in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers responded around 1:31 a.m. to the 100 block of Sixth Street after a report of a shooting, authorities said.<\/p>\n
At the scene, officers found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds and began rendering aid. Paramedics took the man to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he was later pronounced dead, police said.<\/p>\n
Police have not identified the victim and did not say whether anyone has been arrested.<\/p>\n
Authorities are actively investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.<\/p>\n
The killing comes as San Francisco has seen an uptick in homicides this year, according to preliminary police data<\/a>.<\/p>\n Through Feb. 15, police had investigated six homicides in 2026, compared with one during the same period in 2025; four of this year’s six homicides involved firearms, the data shows. A Feb. 27 killing in Potrero Hill<\/a> was not included in those totals.<\/p>\n City leaders have made Sixth Street a focal point<\/a> of public safety efforts.<\/p>\n “Before we started and in the beginning, Sixth Street has looked as bad as it’s ever looked in my lifetime,” San Francisco police Sgt. Kevin Cuadro told the Chronicle<\/a>\u00a0during a 2025 patrol of the corridor. “There’s been small wins, but obviously it’s far, far from perfection. \u2026 It’s still pretty sad.”<\/p>\n
