{"id":204997,"date":"2026-03-05T04:08:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T04:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/204997\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T04:08:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T04:08:11","slug":"sharks-sign-forward-kiefer-sherwood-to-a-five-year-contract-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/204997\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharks sign forward Kiefer Sherwood to a five-year contract extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>San Jose Sharks (<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SanJoseSharks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">@SanJoseSharks<\/a>)\u202fGeneral Manager\u202fMike Grier\u202fannounced today that the club has\u202fsigned\u202fforward\u202fKiefer Sherwood\u202fto a five-year contract worth $28.75 million ($5.75 AAV).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very excited to have Kiefer remain in San Jose and be part of the\u00a0group that\u00a0we are building,\u201d said Grier. \u201cThe ingredients he brings to our line-up\u00a0on a nightly basis blend extremely well with the skillsets of his teammates and we look forward to his contributions in the years to come.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sherwood, 30,\u00a0was\u00a0acquired\u00a0by San Jose on Jan. 19,\u00a02026\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0Vancouver\u00a0Canucks\u00a0in exchange for prospect\u00a0Cole Clayton\u00a0and 2026 and\u00a02027 second\u00a0round draft selections.\u00a0In five games\u00a0with the Sharks this season, Sherwood has\u00a0two points (one goal, one assist), including the game-winning goal on Mar. 3 against the Montreal Canadiens.\u00a0Since his debut with the team on Feb. 4 vs. the Colorado Avalanche, he leads the team in hits with 28, and registered a team-best (tied) nine hits on Mar. 1 vs. the Winnipeg Jets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prior to coming to San Jose,\u00a0Sherwood\u00a0scored 23 points (17 goals, six assists) in 44 games for the Canucks. He led\u00a0the team in\u202fgoals,\u00a0was third in points this year, and ranked\u00a0second in the NHL in hits (210)\u00a0at the time of his trade. Sherwood recorded two hat tricks thus far in 2025-26:\u202fOct. 30,\u202f2025\u202fat St. Louis and Dec. 19,\u202f2025\u202fat the New York Islanders. Between Nov. 8 through Nov. 20 across seven games, he registered three goals and four assists, collecting two separate season-high three-game point streaks.\u202fHe currently has three straight 10-goal\u202fseasons and\u202fis two\u202fshy\u202ffrom his career-best 19 in the previous year.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of his NHL career with the Anaheim Ducks, Colorado, Nashville Predators,\u00a0Vancouver and San Jose, Sherwood has appeared in 314\u00a0NHL games,\u00a0scoring 123\u00a0points (61\u00a0goals, 62\u00a0assists).\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sherwood has\u202falso played in the American Hockey League (AHL), appearing in 186 games and scoring 172 points (92 goals, 80 assists) for the San Diego Gulls,\u202fColorado Eagles, and Milwaukee Admirals. He was named to the AHL Second All-Star Team in the 2021-22 season after recording 75 points (36 goals, 39 assists) in 57 contests for the Eagles.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his professional career, he played across three seasons for Miami\u00a0University (Ohio), appearing in 106 games and collecting 86 points (34 goals, 52 assists). He registered a career best 38 points in the 2016-17 season.
