{"id":205219,"date":"2026-03-05T06:57:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T06:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/205219\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T06:57:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T06:57:07","slug":"bc-hosts-introduce-a-girl-to-engineering-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/205219\/","title":{"rendered":"BC Hosts Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday, March 3, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Bakersfield College hosted the annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.<br \/>\n                        This exciting event brings together young women from high schools from across Kern<br \/>\n                        County to learn more about engineering and STEM career fields. The day is filled with<br \/>\n                        a variety of activities, including engineering panels, professional development workshops,<br \/>\n                        a keynote speaker, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Sara Sullivan, Program Manager of the California Renewable Energy Lab at Kern CCD<br \/>\n                        and one of the event coordinators, talked about the importance of the event, \u201cIntroduce<br \/>\n                        a Girl to Engineering Day is important because it expands access and opportunity for<br \/>\n                        young women who may not otherwise see engineering as an attainable career,\u201d she said,<br \/>\n                        \u201cThe event highlights the importance of diversity in STEM fields and aims to motivate<br \/>\n                        young women to imagine themselves in technical careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event started with an Engineering Panel where industry professionals shared their<br \/>\n                        successes and challenges that they have experienced throughout their STEM career.<br \/>\n                        Attendees were then broken up into three groups to participate in morning workshops.<br \/>\n                        The workshop topics were \u2018Introduction to Engineering Careers\u2019, \u2018Communication Skills<br \/>\n                        that Make a Difference\u2019, and \u2018Career Path Advanced Planning\u2019. After lunch and a group<br \/>\n                        photo, the groups then participated in a variety of activities \u2013 all highlighting<br \/>\n                        the fun and significance of STEM fields.<\/p>\n<p>The Renegade Event Center was abuzz throughout the day as more than 250 high schoolers<br \/>\n                        transitioned to and from activities, workshops, interactive panels and speakers.
