\n\tBritney Spears<\/a> has been arrested, and then released from jail, reportedly allegedly for driving under the influence, in Southern California, according to the Ventura County Sheriff\u2019s Department. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tJail records viewed by The Hollywood Reporter indicate Spears, 44, was arrested on Wednesday night at 9:28 p.m. local time by the California Highway Patrol, and was booked into a local jail at 3:02 a.m.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpears\u2019 inmate record does not indicate why the pop star was arrested, but TMZ, which was the first to report on her arrest, points to a DUI charge.<\/a> The pop superstar is due to make a court appearance on May 4 at the Ventura County Superior Court. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,\u201d a rep for Spears tells THR. \u201cBritney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney\u2019s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.\u00a0Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2021, Spears was freed from a court-directed conservatorship, which included father Jamie Spears in the role of conservator. Spears\u2019 conservatorship was established in 2008, after she was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation.\u00a0Her conservatorship and offscreen controversies have overshadowed her pop stardom and acting career in recent years.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpears\u00a0made her television debut on\u00a0Star Search, and her first big break came in the early 1990s as she starred alongside\u00a0Justin Timberlake,\u00a0JC Chasez,\u00a0Christina Aguilera,\u00a0Ryan Gosling\u00a0and\u00a0Keri Russell\u00a0on Disney\u2019s\u00a0The Mickey Mouse Club.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpears then became a pop star with a series of hits starting with 1999\u2019s \u201c\u2026 Baby One More Time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe recently sold off some of her rights tied to her iconic catalog<\/a>, including \u201c\u2026 Baby One More Time,\u201d \u201cOops! \u2026 I Did It Again!,\u201d \u201cStronger\u201d and \u201cNot a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,\u201d to music company Primary Wave.<\/p>\n
