Kauai firefighters airlifted a 76-year-old California man clinging to a cliffside after he fell about 30 feet off a trail in Wailua on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
An emergency call came in just before 11:45 a.m., according to the Kauai Fire Department, for the hiker in distress near the Kuilau Ridge Trail on the Garden Isle\u2019s east side.<\/p>\n
Firefighters were able to reach the man about two miles in, where they found him hanging on to vegetation to avoid falling further.<\/p>\n
The Kauai Fire Department used an aerial rescue vest to rescue the man from his precarious position, and hoisted him into a helicopter.<\/p>\n
He was then taken to a a landing zone at Loop Road, where care was transferred to American Medical Response.<\/p>\n
The scene was cleared shortly after 12:50 p.m., KFD said.<\/p>\n
