The frightening March 3 ambush<\/a> occurred around 12 p.m. near Lincoln Avenue and East Street shortly after a woman and her 14-year-old daughter exited a transit bus, according to investigators with the Anaheim Police Department.<\/p>\n

In surveillance footage obtained by KTLA, the suspect, 59-year-old Jose Gudino, can be seen standing beneath a freeway overpass a short distance behind the woman and her daughter.<\/p>\n

As they walk across the street, Gudino quickly\u00a0ducks behind a pillar and watches them\u00a0before grabbing a plastic bag\u00a0he\u2019d\u00a0set down earlier and following them.<\/p>\n

While the alleged assault was not caught on camera, APD Sgt. Matt Sutter told KTLA that\u00a0a short time\u00a0later,\u00a0the suspect jumped out of some bushes and tried to pull the pair off the sidewalk while verbally threatening to sexually assault them.<\/p>\n

Both victims fought back and were able to break free. At one point, they were even able to take a picture of\u00a0their alleged attacker.<\/p>\n

A good Samaritan who\u00a0witnessed\u00a0at least a\u00a0portion\u00a0of the incident stopped her vehicle to see what was going on and came to the aid of the girl and her mother, giving them a ride home, and they\u00a0immediately\u00a0called police to report the\u00a0incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cA serious crime like this generated a large response from the Anaheim Police Department,\u201d Sutter told KTLA. \u201cWe sent detectives, patrol officers, investigators, undercover investigators and immediately launched our investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The department also used its real-time crime center to pull up surveillance footage from cameras in the area to track the suspect\u2019s movements and facial recognition technology to\u00a0identify\u00a0him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m\u00a0happy to report that within two hours, we did arrest the suspect,\u201d Sutter said.<\/p>\n

Gudino, who is known to Anaheim police, was taken into custody and has since been charged by the Orange County District Attorney\u2019s Office with two counts of kidnapping\u00a0with intent to commit rape.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis prior arrests include narcotics violations, trespassing, things I would consider lower-level crimes,\u201d the sergeant said.\u00a0\u201cThere\u00a0was nothing to indicate that he was any type of predator or would do this type of behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

Investigators are now trying to track down the good Samaritan, not only to thank her for assisting the victims, but to take a report on what she saw. She reportedly left the area after giving the teen and her mother a ride home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe women were so traumatized, at first they didn\u2019t even know what kind of car they were in,\u201d Sutter explained. \u201cAll they could tell us was that it was a female driver and\u00a0possibly a\u00a0white SUV. So, anyone who has information about this person who stopped to help, please contact the Anaheim Police Department.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police officials said that crimes of this nature are rare in Anaheim and believe this was an isolated\u00a0incident but\u00a0added that they encourage everyone to be vigilant and always remain aware of their surroundings.<\/p>\n
