LIHU\u2019E, Hawaii (Island News) \u2013 The Kauai Police Department (KPD) arrested two people wanted in California in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a law enforcement officer on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.<\/p>\n

According to police, the incident took place on Po\u2019ipu Beach following a coordinated multi-agency operation at approximately 7:20 p.m. Multiple law enforcement agencies coordinated an operation to locate and arrest Shane Mahoney, 39, and Arianna Mitchell, 22, both from California.<\/p>\n

When officers were in contact with Mitchell, it was reported that he fled on foot, which resulted in a brief foot pursuit. Officers apprehended both Mitchell and Mahoney without further incident.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department confirmed that Mahoney was wanted on a warrant for Attempted Murder and Assault with a Firearm upon a Peace Officer in connection with a February 22, 2026, incident in which a deputy sheriff\u2019s marked patrol vehicle was struck by gunfire. Mitchell was sought on a warrant for Accessory After the Fact. Both of them are currently being held pending extradition proceedings to California.<\/p>\n
