Bill Maher pulled a fast one on California Sen. Adam Schiff while discussing the attacks on Iran<\/a> \u2014 leading the Democrat to inadvertently throw shade at the Obama administration.<\/p>\n

On his show \u201cReal Time\u201d Friday, Maher read a 2011 quote from the <\/a>Obama camp about presidential power in authorizing military strikes<\/a> \u2014 without naming the former commander-in-chief.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis statement from the administration: \u2018The president had the constitutional authority<\/a> to direct the use of military force because he could reasonably determine that such use of force was in the national interest.\u2019 That\u2019s too vague for you?\u201d Maher asked Schiff, who has loudly opposed Trump\u2019s decision to strike Iran without congressional approval.<\/p>\n

\"BillMaher disguised a 2011 quote from the Obama administration on Libya as the Trump administration\u2019s justification for their involvement in the Iran conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cTotally vague,\u201d the senator replied confidently.<\/p>\n

\u201cOK. Because that\u2019s from Obama about Libya,\u201d the host revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, Obama made the argument, um, initially that he could go into Syria without an authorization,\u201d the senator said while trying to gather himself, adding that he opposed the move.<\/p>\n

\u201cI and many others pushed back on that argument. Ultimately, he did not go forward with going after [former Syrian President] Assad \u2014 even though Assad was gassing his own people \u2014 because he thought he might lose the vote in Congress.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I respect the fact that, uh, that was important to [Obama], and the fact that he did not have the support of Congress meant that we weren\u2019t going to go forward,\u201d Schiff concluded.<\/p>\n

The senator said earlier this week that he was going to force a vote in Congress to prevent Trump from \u201cabusing his power,\u201d after joint US-Israeli strikes last week killed\u00a0Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei<\/a>\u00a0along with 40 top security and regime officials. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no imminent threat to justify starting a war with Iran,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cInstead, Donald Trump chose the path of more chaos \u2014 with American lives on the line.
