Mack’s return means a pillar of leadership and work ethic will remain on defense as the Bolts transition to a new defensive coordinator in Chris O’Leary<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mack is perhaps the most respected player in the entire locker room, something he has earned from both his play and ability to guide young players along.<\/p>\n

He had an hand in developing Tuli Tuipulotu’s<\/a> growth but also worked behind the scenes to encourage Tarheeb Still and others to put in the required work in the offseason.<\/p>\n

And Mack isn’t afraid to speak up when needed, just as he did on a short week in late October before a Thursday night home game against the Vikings.<\/p>\n

With the Chargers sitting at 4-3, Mack lit a fire under the Bolts that inspired a dominating 37-10 win over Minnesota and sparked a streak of seven wins in eight games.<\/p>\n

“When guys like that talk, everybody listens,” Tuipulotu said. “Especially if he’s not the type to talk a lot, whenever he talks everybody listens.<\/p>\n

“We all buy into what he says because he’s done great things in this league,” Tuipulotu added. “He knows what needs to be done.”<\/p>\n

As Mack enters Year 13, it’s clear that he’s taking his career on a year-by-year basis at this point. But it’s worth pointing out that he’s now going into Year 5 in Southern California, longer than any of his previous NFL stops.<\/p>\n

By returning to the Chargers, he is signaling that believes his best chance to win is with the Bolts.<\/p>\n

Now it’s up to Mack to help lead the way to accomplish those goals, which surely includes elusive playoff success.<\/p>\n

And it’s up to the Chargers to keep making shrewd moves in free agency ahead of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
