Federal authorities responded Saturday to allegations that ICE officers chased a local activist into a Grant Hill high school, where he was admitted after fleeing from them.<\/p>\n

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials, in a statement posted to social media, recounted Wednesday\u2019s incident, outside King Chavez Community High School, a charter campus on 30th Street. <\/p>\n

They accused the unnamed activist, whom they characterized as \u201ca known agitator with a long criminal history,\u201d of failing to consider the threat he might pose to the school. They also criticized an administrator, also unidentified, calling it \u201cdeeply disturbing\u201d that someone seemingly unconnected to the school was allowed on campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cRunning from law enforcement into an active school campus created a dangerous situation and unnecessarily put children, staff and officers at risk,\u201d ICE said in the statement.<\/p>\n

Arturo Gonz\u00e1lez \u2013 who identifies himself as an \u201cactivist\/content creator\u201d on his social media accounts \u2013 posted videos<\/a> Wednesday in which he can be heard taunting individuals sitting inside a black Nissan parked on a residential street. One pulls a light-colored gaiter-type mask over his face, apparently in response to being recorded.<\/p>\n

Gonz\u00e1lez taunts them, calling them \u201cLa migra\u201d and \u201cNazis\u201d and cursing at them. When they exit the vehicle, he runs, saying \u201cGuys, they\u2019re chasing me again.\u201d He approaches a building and yells, panting, \u201cHey, they\u2019re trying to grab me. Can you let me in?\u201d and climbs some steps.<\/p>\n

Someone responds, \u201cCan you just back off? I need to keep kids safe.\u201d Gonz\u00e1lez, though, is permitted to enter after what appears to be an edit in the recording.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys, ICE just chased me into a school and I\u2019m hiding,\u201d he says as the video ends.<\/p>\n

Gonz\u00e1lez posted a new video Saturday, following ICE\u2019s statement and a media report regarding the incident. He said he was near the school to warn parents near the drop-off zone that ICE was nearby and officers \u201cescalated\u201d the situation. <\/p>\n

He added that the media report, by NBC San Diego, failed to include parts of his videos that \u201cshow the federal agents being the dangerous ones in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also defended the school\u2019s principal, identified as Desi Sullivan on the school\u2019s staff contact list.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re trying to make it seem like the principal did something wrong when in reality she is a hero, you guys,\u201d he said. \u201cShe is my hero. She is the community\u2019s hero, you guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

King Chavez is a charter school authorized<\/a> by the San Diego Unified School District. A district spokesman said Saturday that the school operates independently of the district.<\/p>\n

Sullivan did not respond to an email seeking comment.<\/p>\n

ICE concluded its Saturday statement by saying, \u201cAnyone who interferes with law enforcement officers performing their duties may face arrest. ICE remains committed to enforcing the law safely and professionally while protecting the communities we serve.\u201d <\/p>\n
