(Tarmo Hannula \/ Los Gatan)<\/p>\n<p class=\"dropcapp4\">On March 8, at approximately 9:59pm, CHP officers responded to a call of a crash on\u00a0southbound State Route 17, south of Glenwood Drive.<\/p>\n<p>A 44-year-old man from San Jose was\u00a0 driving a 2008 Suzuki SX4 at an unknown speed southbound on State Route 17 south of\u00a0 Glenwood Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the Suzuki and\u00a0 crashed into the center concrete median. After this impact, the Suzuki rolled and crashed\u00a0 into a dirt embankment on the west shoulder of southbound State Route 17. As a result of the\u00a0 crash, the driver sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by\u00a0 medical personnel, despite life-saving efforts. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is unknown if alcohol and\/or drugs were factors in the crash. Anyone with potentially\u00a0helpful information is asked to call CHP dispatch at (831) 796-2160. Information regarding the\u00a0deceased victim is available through the Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroner\u2019s Office.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Captain Boles, the commander of the CHP Santa Cruz Area office, would like to emphasize\u00a0 that buckling up before driving requires only a few seconds, yet its potential impact is\u00a0 immeasurable.
