A man suspected of prowling outside homes in East Oakland was arrested Monday in connection with a series of incidents that alarmed residents for months, police said.<\/p>\n
The Oakland Police Department said patrol officers arrested the man just before 11 a.m. Monday in the area of the 3700 block of Carrington Street, near Fruitvale.<\/p>\n
Police did not identify the man arrested, and did not give any details about him.<\/p>\n
Since Dec. 13, police have received at least six reports of a prowler peeking inside homes, according to the department. Authorities said the incidents may be linked to additional reports dating back to March 2025.<\/p>\n
Many of the recent reports occurred between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. in Maxwell Park, a residential neighborhood near Mills College, and police said they deployed additional patrols in the area to investigate.<\/p>\n
Before the arrest, authorities described the suspect as a balding man in his 40s or 50s, possibly Caucasian or Latino. He was seen wearing a black jacket, a white hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.<\/p>\n
A conviction for prowling in California could come with six months in county jail and up to a $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n
