Persian New Year celebration<\/p>\n
The Cupertino Library is hosting a celebration of\u00a0Persian New Year, or\u00a0Nowruz, on March 16, 7-8 p.m. The event features traditional spring dances, including circle dances, and attendees can learn about the cultural significance behind these movements and their connection to renewal and community.<\/p>\n
The program also explores the symbolism of Nowruz traditions, including the meaning of the holiday and\u00a0the traditional seven\u2011symbol spread.<\/p>\n
This program is part of Santa Clara County Library District\u2019s celebration of\u00a0Silicon Valley Reads.<\/p>\n
Electing to help<\/p>\n
The League of Women Voters of Cupertino-Sunnyvale is looking for volunteers to help with the June 2 primary election in June and the Nov. 3 general election.<\/p>\n
Volunteers can act as:<\/p>\n
Drop box couriers, picking up ballots from an assigned drop box and transporting them to the Registrar of Voters office in San Jose;
\nVote center couriers, picking up ballots from vote centers in Sunnyvale or Cupertino and transporting them to the Registrar of Voters office; or
\nCoordinators for a Logistics and Supplies Center at the Registrar of Voters office, sending out couriers to deliver supplies to vote centers.<\/p>\n
Volunteers must be age 16 or older.\u00a0\u00a0They\u2019re not required to be residents of Santa Clara County or be a registered voter. Teams of two are required\u00a0for all the jobs, and training is required. The league\u2019s group training will be at 2 p.m. on May 5, 6 or 7, depending on volunteers\u2019 preference.<\/p>\n
