Gang detectives in Long Beach Tuesday announced the arrest of a 74-year-old suspect in connection with a 2024 no-hit shooting after a road-rage incident, along with the seizure of 30 guns, 12 of them untraceable.<\/p>\n
The shooting happened on Dec. 24, 2024, when officers were called to the area of Ocean Boulevard and Alamitos Avenue to investigate a report of gunfire.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe preliminary investigation indicated a dispute had occurred between the drivers of two vehicles in the area,\u201d according to a Long Beach Police Department statement. \u201cThe dispute escalated and one of the drivers fired multiple rounds at the other vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n
A nearby residence was struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
Detectives identified the suspect involved in the shooting as 74-year-old James William Higgins of Long Beach and arrested him on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cDetectives served a search warrant at his residence,\u201d police said. \u201cDuring the search warrant service, detectives recovered 30 firearms, 12 of which were unserialized, along with a large quantity of ammunition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Higgins was booked on suspicion of discharging a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, assault with a firearm, manufacturing or assembling an unregistered firearm and manufacturing or causing to be manufactured an assault weapon. His bail was set at $250,000.<\/p>\n
