(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 The Kern County Coroner\u2019s Office has identified a pilot who died after a <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/helicopter-reported-on-fire-near-tehachapi-pass-wind-farm-near-mojave-injuries-unknown-kern-county-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">helicopter crash near Mojave<\/a> as 62-year-old Steven Madewell of New Plymouth, Idaho.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/helicopter-reported-on-fire-near-tehachapi-pass-wind-farm-near-mojave-injuries-unknown-kern-county-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NTSB release information on helicopter crash near Mojave, one dead<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the CHP\u2019s website, an \u201caircraft emergency\u201d incident was called on Monday, March 9, 2026, at around 3:21 p.m. for a report of a helicopter \u201cdown\u201d on fire on Oak Creek Road and 90th Street West.<\/p>\n<p>The National Transportation Safety Board said the crash involved an MD Helicopters 369FF helicopter. The preliminary information they had was that the helicopter rapidly descended into terrain while laying powerlines.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"{p}It is unknown if anyone was hurt after a helicopter was on fire near Mojave Monday afternoon.
