Anaheim Ducks<\/a> defenceman Radko Gudas<\/a> will have a hearing on Friday for kneeing after his knee-on-knee hit forced Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> captain Auston Matthews<\/a> out of Thursday night\u2019s game.<\/p>\n

According to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston, Gudas\u2019 hearing will be over the phone, which means he cannot be suspended for more than five games.<\/p>\n

Gudas drew a major penalty and a game misconduct, and Leafs head coach Craig Berube<\/a> called it a \u201cdirty play\u201d after Toronto\u2019s 6-4 victory.<\/p>\n

Radko Gudas has been given a telephone hearing by @NHLPlayerSafety<\/a> for his knee-on-knee hit on Auston Matthews, which means they can’t suspend him for more than five games.<\/p>\n

In the second period, Matthews attempted to make a move around Gudas in front of the Ducks\u2019 net and the veteran blueliner caught Matthews\u2019s left knee on the way by, sending him to the ice in obvious pain. Matthews stayed down and required help to get to the dressing room.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s done a few of those before in his career,\u201d Toronto winger Matthew Knies<\/a> said of Gudas.<\/p>\n

Gudas was responsible for the hit that knocked Canada captain Sidney Crosby<\/a> out of Milano Cortina 2026 last month in the quarter-final, although he was not penalized on that play.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe [got] to be on top of him,\u201d Gudas told reporters at Thursday\u2019s morning skate before the hit. \u201cWe got to make sure that he doesn\u2019t get space in the middle of the ice \u2026 make his night\u2019s not enjoyable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ducks head coach Joel Quenneville<\/a> defended Gudas Thursday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no premeditation,\u201d Quenneville said. \u201cReflexes did it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matthews had a goal in 13:18 before departing Thursday\u2019s game, bringing him to 27 on the season with 53 points.<\/p>\n
