‘It’s just awesome’<\/p>\n
NBC Los Angeles spoke with two of the owners of the lowriders featured on the stamps on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Brothers and San Pedro residents Anthony and Frankie Onorato are the proud owners of The Golden Rose, the orange, exquisitely detailed 1964 Chevrolet Impala that belonged to their father.<\/p>\n
\u201cStill can\u2019t believe it,\u201d Anthony told NBCLA, speaking about the new stamps. \u201cIt\u2019s just awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be a part of this, it\u2019s great,\u201d Frankie added.<\/p>\n
Their lowrider is named after their dad, Rosario \u2014 aka Rosie \u2014 who built the stunning ride with the boys.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy dad planted the seed in us,\u201d Frankie said.<\/p>\n
According to Anthony, the lowrider stamp idea first started more than three years ago, and lots of cars and owners were in the running to be featured.<\/p>\n
Rosario died before the stamp was approved for release.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut he knew,\u201d Anthony said. \u201cWe wish he was with us, but he is here spiritually.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is looking down and he has a big smile on his face and is probably really pumped up,\u201d Frankie added.<\/p>\n
The brothers said they\u2019re humbled that The Golden Rose was chosen for the honor.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be one of the cars chosen \u2014 it\u2019s a very awesome feeling,\u201d Anthony said.<\/p>\n
Anthony and Frankie said lowriders are a symbol of a lot of cultures in Southern California who love honoring the creativity and pride behind each of their cars.<\/p>\n
Frankie told NBCLA he plans to cherish the \u201cLowrider Forever\u201d stamps as a keepsake. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t plan to use them. I plan to keep them forever,\u201d he said with a laugh.<\/p>\n
Upland resident Albert De Alba can relate to the Onorato brothers.<\/p>\n
His lowrider, El Rey, a red 1963 Chevrolet Impala, is also one of the five lowriders featured on the new stamps.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t believe it at first,\u201d De Alba told NBC LA. \u201cIt became a blessing for the family.\u201d<\/p>\n
