NEW JERSEY \u2013 Yaroslav Askarov will start his fourth game of the season on Friday as the San Jose Sharks visit the New Jersey Devils.<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old has stumbled out of the gate, much like the rest of the Sharks team, but there isn\u2019t any reason to worry. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky put any concerns about Askarov\u2019s future success to rest.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s a young kid that\u2019s going through this. If you really think about it, he\u2019s played what, 15, 18 games in the National Hockey League. I don\u2019t even know if it\u2019s that high, but he\u2019s right up there with [Macklin Celebrini<\/a>] and Will [Smith]<\/a> as a young player in this league that\u2019s learning,\u201d Warsofsky said. \u201cI think maybe it\u2019s the outside perspective of he needs to carry the world on his shoulders. He\u2019s probably feeling that pressure a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n It is hard to forget that the San Jose Sharks\u2019 star players are still so young. With his second career hat trick against the New York Rangers, Celebrini made headlines as one of the NHL\u2019s youngest players ever to achieve two hat tricks in a career.<\/p>\n Advertisement. Panicking would only add more pressure on the 23-year-old. After all, this is the first time in his professional career he\u2019s started a season in the NHL<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThomas [Speer] is doing a really good job of working with him,\u201d Warsofsky said. \u201cWe\u2019ve talked to him. He\u2019s hitting a little speed bump early in his NHL career. The world\u2019s not coming to an end. He\u2019s going to be just fine. He\u2019s an extremely talented goaltender. We got to work on some technical things, but we still have very good confidence in this young man.\u201d<\/p>\n So, how do the Sharks help Askarov navigate through a tough stretch?<\/p>\n Warsofsky connects well with his players. We got to put our arms around him and guide him,\u201d Warsofsky explained. \u201cHe\u2019s a young kid. He\u2019s not 30 years old and a mature human being. This is new to him. This is a challenge for him. I mean, this is part of life. <\/p>\n \u201cAs coaches, we\u2019ve got to be there for him. There are times where, like I said, you have to put your arms around him and give him a big hug. There are times where you have to push him and challenge him to get out of his comfort zone, and he\u2019s reacted really well to that.\u201d<\/p>\n NHL teams need to take their time as they develop young goalies. Regarding Askarov, his situation shouldn\u2019t be any different.
