Israeli businesses have helped to create more than 20,000 jobs in the Golden State, and generate billions in economic growth, according to a new study released after Gov. Gavin Newsom blasted Israel as an \u201capartheid state.\u201c<\/a><\/p>\n

An independent study released Wednesday found that Israeli-founded companies play a significant role in California\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

The 2025 California\u2013Israel Economic Impact Report, commissioned by the United States\u2013Israel Business Alliance, identified 367 Israeli-founded companies operating in the Golden State.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis report underscores the depth and resilience of the California-Israel economic relationship,\u201d said Aaron Kaplowitz, president of USIBA. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnchored in Silicon Valley, Israeli-founded companies bring cutting-edge innovation to California, support tens of thousands of jobs, and reinforce the state\u2019s leadership in the global tech economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those companies collectively generated $8.9 billion in economic output in 2024, while contributing $6.5 billion in value added to the state economy, the report found. <\/p>\n

Researchers also estimated the companies support about 22,650 jobs across California, producing roughly $4 billion in wages and earnings for workers.<\/p>\n

The analysis also highlights the role Israeli startups play in the state\u2019s technology sector. <\/p>\n

Among the companies operating in California are 32 \u201cunicorns\u201d \u2014 privately held firms valued at $1 billion or more \u2014 that maintain either global or US headquarters in the state, the report said.<\/p>\n

Researchers say the relationship between California and Israel has grown over decades as Israeli entrepreneurs expand into the world\u2019s largest technology hub.<\/p>\n

The report comes as\u00a0Gavin Newsom\u00a0has faced backlash over recent comments, including calling former President\u00a0Trump\u2019s strike on\u00a0Iran\u00a0\u201cillegal\u201d and criticizing Israeli leadership during a recent interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Governor has platformed narratives advanced by America\u2019s enemies,\u201d Beverly Hills Councilmember and three-time former Mayor John Mirisch said after the governor\u2019s comments. <\/p>\n

\u201cCalifornia was once a national leader in holding Iran accountable, becoming the first state to ban Iran-linked companies from government contracts. Now its governor is lending credibility to the regime\u2019s talking points.\u201d<\/p>\n

During an appearance on Pod Save America,\u00a0Newsom\u00a0was asked by host\u00a0Jon Favreau\u00a0about Israeli Prime Minister\u00a0Benjamin Netanyahu\u00a0and the direction of Israeli politics.<\/p>\n

Newsom referenced commentary from\u00a0Thomas Friedman\u00a0of\u00a0The New York Times, saying some analysts warn Israel could be moving toward \u201csort of an apartheid state.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt breaks my heart, because the current leadership in Israel is walking us down that path,\u201d Newsom said, when asked whether the US should reconsider aspects of its military relationship with Israel.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the new economic report emphasizes that ties between Israel and California remain deeply embedded in business and technology networks.<\/p>\n
