The union and the district most recently met for bargaining Sunday afternoon, but no agreement was reached despite new health care proposals on both sides.

“Instead of working to get our teachers and students back to school, NUSD is arresting a parent who was peacefully asking for a dialogue,” NTA President Nico Vaccaro said.

“Our plan offers a clear path to ending the staffing crisis and the strike, but the district refuses to act despite their significant financial resources. To get our community back to the classroom, NUSD must finally commit to the investments that will end this crisis once and for all.”

This story was originally published March 17, 2026 at 2:10 PM.

        Related Stories from Sacramento Bee

                Jennah Pendleton

                    The Sacramento Bee

Jennah Pendleton is an education reporter for The Sacramento Bee.
