Griffith Park\u2014Plans for the Griffith Park pool go before the public on Thursday, in an open house hosted by Councilmember Nithya Raman<\/a>.<\/p>\n The initial schematic designs for the proposed renovation will be presented by the architecture firm Perkins Eastman. This is still very early in the design process, introducing the overall vision, layout, and major features of the project, according to a statement from Raman’s office.<\/p>\n
“During this stage, the design focuses on the big-picture concepts rather than detailed specifications,” the statement said.<\/p>\n After the presentation, community members will have the opportunity to give feedback to help inform the design development.<\/p>\n
The pool is slated for demolition and replacement<\/a>. It has been closed since the pandemic, and has been plagued by leaks in the foundation. Plans currently include<\/a> replacing the 225-foot-long pool with a smaller competition (25 yards by 50 meters) and a 25-yard-by-25-yard splash pad.<\/p>\n Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2027, though that may change depending on the design the community decides on, according to Mary Nemick, spokesperson for the city’s Bureau of Engineering. The building phase is expected to last about a year and a half. The budget is currently reported as $28 million, but that figure is expected to increase.<\/p>\n The existing pool was opened in 1927.
