Once again, Air Force Women’s Tennis looks westward as the Falcons head to California for a pair of duals against San Jose State and Fresno State on Friday and Sunday, respectively. First serve against the Spartans is set for 1 p.m. MT; Sunday’s bout in Fresno is set for 11:30 a.m. MT. \u00a0

\nFalcons at a Glance:
\nSporting wins in three of its last four matches, Air Force aims to close out the second weekend of Mountain West play with a winning record against league opponents. After pulling out wins over Davidson (4-2) and Nevada (4-1) and falling 4-1 to UNLV last weekend, Air Force is a combined 19-44 (.302) in singles play and 19-17 (.528) in doubles. The Falcons have won five-straight doubles points and six out of the last seven. At 5-2, senior Arianna Van Houweling<\/a> paces Air Force in singles wins. In doubles, Van Houweling\/Shivaani Selvan<\/a> sit at 7-3; Sophomore Maya Michalski<\/a> and freshman Jariahlyn Rhoades<\/a> sit at 4-1; No. 85-ranked Abby Cotuna<\/a> and Sofia Mavor<\/a> currently are 4-2.

\nOn Sunday, Air Force Women’s Tennis got out to a strong start in singles play after picking up a doubles win, but the Falcons ultimately fell 4-1 to UNLV in Cadet East Gym.<\/p>\n

For the fifth-straight match, Air Force secured the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage to open competition. Senior\u00a0Arianna Van Houweling<\/a><\/a>\u00a0and sophomore Shivanni Selvan were first to claim victory. The duo built up a 5-1 lead before putting away Eszter Kis-Czako\/Veronika Kliuch, 6-3. Van Houweling\/Selvan’s fourth-straight win improved the pairing to 8-2 in dual doubles, while snapping Kis-Czako\/Kliuch’s four-match win streak. After a Falcon defeat on line three (Kaho Oyama\/Sofiia Soklovak vs.\u00a0Maya Michalski<\/a><\/a>\/Jariahlyn Rhoades<\/a><\/a>, 6-4), No. 64 Falcon duo\u00a0Abby Cotuna<\/a><\/a>\/Sofia Mavor<\/a><\/a>\u00a0pulled off a 6-4 doubles clincher over Hudson Hawkins\/Nicole Mircheva after trailing 4-3 in their set.<\/p>\n

In singles, the Falcons went down on lines two (Nikol Mircheva vs. Van Houweling, 6-2, 6-2), one (Kliuch vs. Cotuna, 6-4, 6-1), three (Hudson Hawkins vs. Mavor, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3) and four (Kis-Czako vs.\u00a0Yule Kang<\/a>, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1) in order. Mavor and Kang both forced three-set matches after picking up a win in the first but both fell in the third.

\nLooking Ahead:

\nFollowing the Falcons’ pair of matches this weekend in California, Air Force is off to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon (March 27) and San Diego State (March 29). Tennis returns to the Academy on Apr. 2 with Air Force hosting Wyoming.
