PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) \u2014 Three people are in critical condition after an overnight stabbing in Providence.<\/p>\n
Providence police officers responded to Sawyer Street around 2:40 a.m. Sunday for reports of multiple people injured in a stabbing.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found a large crowd gathered outside the home, on the sidewalk and porch, according to police.<\/p>\n

Neighbors said the violence is unusual for the area.<\/p>\n
“I’ve lived here for 50 years, it\u2019s extremely quiet,” said Scott Slater, Providence\u2019s District 10 city councilor and a neighborhood resident.<\/p>\n
According to others who live nearby, the commotion woke them up.<\/p>\n
“My wife woke me up when she saw all the lights, she heard the woman scream across the street,” said Drew Navarro, another neighborhood resident.<\/p>\n
Video shared with NBC 10 showed a large police presence on the small dead-end road as investigators worked the scene.<\/p>\n
Police said three victims were found at the scene, a 26-year-old man with a serious cut to the abdomen, a 21-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest, and a 33-year-old man found inside the home with a stab wound to the shin.<\/p>\n
All three were taken to Rhode Island Hospital.<\/p>\n
“Cops were all around, saw the person hosing off the sidewalk from the blood,” Navarro said.<\/p>\n
Police also learned of a fourth victim, another 33-year-old man, who took himself to the hospital and reported being hit in the head with a glass bottle by an unknown suspect.<\/p>\n
Three of the four victims are currently listed in critical condition, according to police.<\/p>\n
Slater said residents are searching for answers.<\/p>\n
“I don’t know if it was a conflict, or a fight, but this isn\u2019t normal for this area,” he said. “I pray for everyone\u2019s safety and that those that are involved are brought to justice.”<\/p>\n
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.<\/p>\n
