FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — The man who was shot and killed outside a party in Downtown Fresno on Friday night has been identified as 38-year-old Meharie Kidane, Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto confirmed Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
It happened at about 11 p.m. on March 20 near the intersection of Fulton and Inyo streets.<\/p>\n
Chief Casto says there was a nearby party with about 300 people attending when a fight broke out.<\/p>\n
The event security cleared the area, and the crowd was pushed out into the street.<\/p>\n
That’s when shots were fired.<\/p>\n
It happened just hours before the annual FresYes Fest, which already had heightened patrols assigned to the area.<\/p>\n
“We had a number of extra units down there, my daughter was there, you know, as a testament that downtown Fresno is still a safe place to be, but violence can break out in a number of places, and tragically, we saw that way too much this weekend,” Chief Casto said.<\/p>\n
Kidane was taken to the hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n
Fresno police are still searching for the shooter.<\/p>\n
