A historic mansion on San Francisco\u2019s storied Billionaires\u2019 Row<\/a> has become the city\u2019s most expensive home sale of 2025 so far. The home sold in early October for $42 million in an off-market transaction, the San Francisco Business Times<\/a> first reported.<\/p>\n

The 12-bedroom, seven-bathroom<\/a> residence at 2930 Broadway spans 7,320 square feet and was designed in 1928 by Arthur Brown Jr., who was \u201ca top-tier student\u201d<\/a> of famed architect Bernard R. Maybeck. A renowned architect in his own right, Brown\u2019s portfolio includes iconic San Francisco landmarks such as City Hall, Coit Tower and the California School of Fine Arts\u2019 San Francisco campus.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The property was sold by the family trust of Brooks Walker Jr., who died in September 2024 at the age of 96. Described as a \u201cbusiness and civic leader,\u201d<\/a> Walker\u00a0was a third-generation Californian born in Oakland. He graduated from UC Berkeley and later served as the chairman of SFMOMA from 1984 to 1995. He was also a member of many illustrious and secretive clubs, including both the Pacific Union Club and the Bohemian Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the Business Times, the buyer is HOS Pacific, a California LLC with connections to Texas.<\/p>\n

Despite the eye-popping price tag, the sale ranks second in the Bay Area so far this year.
