Police were investigating a suspected murder-suicide involving a mother and son in Burlingame, near South Park, on Tuesday. <\/p>\n
Officers and personnel from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said they responded around 7:40 p.m. Monday to reports of neighbors hearing gunshots in the 2400 block of San Marcos Avenue.<\/p>\n
Police said they found a 51-year-old man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head on the front porch of the residence and a handgun near him. He was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
An 83-year-old woman was also discovered inside the home with a \u201cnon-survivable\u201d gunshot wound to her upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
A preliminary investigation indicated the pair were mother and son and lived in the home together, the department said.<\/p>\n
The motive for the shootings was unclear, but detectives from the department\u2019s Homicide Unit were handling the investigation. <\/p>\n
