As a heat wave continues to drive crowds to the coast, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health was warning Friday that ocean water at several beaches is unsafe due to elevated bacteria levels, while clearing some previously affected areas.<\/p>\n
The affected beach areas are:<\/p>\n
\u2014 Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the public restrooms;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, entire swim area;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Dockweiler State Beach, Culver Boulevard storm drain, 100 yards up and down the coast from the storm drain;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu, 100 yards up and down the coast from the public restrooms;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Walnut Creek at Paradise Cove, 100 yards up and down the coast from the creek;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Wilshire Boulevard storm drain at Santa Monica Beach, near North Tower 12, 100 yards up and down the coast from the storm drain;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu, 100 yards up and down the coast from the lagoon; and<\/p>\n
\u2014 Escondido Creek at Escondido State Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the creek.<\/p>\n
Health officials said the warnings were issued after recent water samples showed bacteria levels exceeding state health standards, which could increase the risk of illness.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a warning was lifted for the following beach area where recent sample results identified water quality levels within state standards:<\/p>\n
\u2014 Topsail Street extension in Venice; and<\/p>\n
\u2014 Mother\u2019s Beach in Marina Del Rey,<\/p>\n
