A Muni bus struck and killed a pedestrian who fell from the sidewalk in Union Square on Tuesday, according to authorities.<\/p>\n
The unnamed man fell and \u201cmade contact\u201d with a westbound 38-Geary bus on Geary Street near Kearny Street at around 6:50 a.m., the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said in an X post. (opens in new tab)<\/a> He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, the agency said.<\/p>\n \u201cOur deepest condolences go out to his friends and family,\u201d the SFMTA said.<\/p>\n The agency has taken the driver off-duty and is testing whether the employee was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The San Francisco Police Department said it is investigating the crash.<\/p>\n The San Francisco Fire Department said it received a report at 6:53 a.m. that a Muni bus had struck a man. Emergency personnel arrived five minutes later and took him to San Francisco General Hospital, according to an SFFD spokesperson.<\/p>\n In 2014, San Francisco adopted the Vision Zero policy, with the goal of eliminating traffic deaths.
