Historic Mission Bay restaurant could be forced out under city redevelopment plan<\/a><\/p>\n

A 75-year-old waterfront restaurant in Mission Bay could be forced out by the city of San Diego\u2019s redevelopment plan, putting Joe Busalacchi\u2019s family business and one of the bay\u2019s oldest tenants at risk.<\/p>\n

Sportsmen\u2019s Seafood<\/a>\u00a0was the first lease signed in Mission Bay, operating even before the area\u2019s first bridges were built.<\/p>\n

Busalacchi has run the restaurant for 36 years, continuing a three-generation family business after his father passed away.<\/p>\n

Blue states governors like California Governor Gavin Newsom have vowed to fight Trump administration immigration policies, including deportations of criminal illegal aliens.<\/p>\n

At the heart of\u00a0California\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0non-existing illegal immigrant enforcement is\u00a0Senate Bill 54<\/a>, which now prohibits local police departments and sheriffs\u2019 deputies from assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and enforcing federal immigration laws. But that law conflicts with federal law and federal immigration rules.<\/p>\n

California is a \u201csanctuary state\u201d thanks to Assembly and Senate Democrats and former Gov. Jerry Brown who signed\u00a0Senate Bill 54<\/a>\u00a0by then-Senate President pro Tem Kevin de Le\u00f3n (D-Los Angeles) in 2017.<\/p>\n

County begins independent audit after ex-con COO charged with embezzlement<\/a><\/p>\n

San Diego County Chief Administrative Officer Ebony Shelton announced Monday the county is formally reviewing its internal contracting processes following\u00a0embezzlement charges<\/a>\u00a0against a nonprofit executive.<\/p>\n

In February, Amy Knox, the former chief operating officer of Harm Reduction Coalition of San Diego, which contracted with the county to distribute the anti-overdose medication Narcan, was charged with embezzling funds from the organization.<\/p>\n

Knox is accused of taking more than $130,000 in public funds to pay for personal expenses such as plastic surgery procedures, trips to Hawaii and Disneyland, and payments for her SDG&E and credit card bills.<\/p>\n
