At around 6:50 a.m. on Geary Boulevard near Kearny Street, a 38 Geary bus was heading outbound when a male pedestrian \u201cfell from the sidewalk\u201d and into the path of the bus. The man later died at a hospital after being taken there by emergency personnel who arrived on the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur deepest condolences go out to his friends and family,\u201d the agency wrote<\/a>, noting that officials are \u201cdeeply saddened\u201d by the tragedy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The agency said it is cooperating with San Francisco Police Department while also conducting its own internal review. Under standard procedures, the Muni operator has been removed from driving duties and is undergoing drug and alcohol testing while the investigation unfolds.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSafety remains our top priority,\u201d the agency said<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The man\u2019s identity has not been made public.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to WalkSF, it has been a deadly start to the year for pedestrians. The advocacy group reports<\/a> that five pedestrians died as of March 13.\u00a0<\/p>\n
