Gavin Newsom for failing to come up with a plan for affordable housing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2022\/02\/06\/as-new-bay-area-housing-applications-grow-so-does-rift-between-suburbs-developers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A law that took effect in 2022<\/a> requires every community to submit to the state\u2019s housing agency a plan \u2014 \u201cthe housing element\u201d \u2014 that details how it intends to meet the housing needs of residents at all income levels.<\/p>\n<p>So far, housing plans have been adopted for 480 cities and counties; 22 others are expected to finalize their plans in the next two months, said the statement Wednesday from Newsom\u2019s office. The 15 communities that received warnings are \u201cmore than two years behind schedule and lack a path to compliance within 60 days,\u201d the statement said. Those communities could be sued by the state.<\/p>\n<p>They are:<\/p>\n<p>Half Moon Bay<br \/>\nEscalon<br \/>\nOakdale<br \/>\nPatterson<br \/>\nTurlock<br \/>\nAtwater<br \/>\nMerced County<br \/>\nLemoore<br \/>\nHanford<br \/>\nAvenal<br \/>\nKings County<br \/>\nCorcoran<br \/>\nRidgecrest<br \/>\nCalifornia City<br \/>\nMontclair<\/p>\n<p>The state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accountability.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">online accountability dashboard<\/a> details county-by-county progress in creating housing. In addition to Half Moon Bay, which received a warning, the Bay Area cities currently designated as \u201cout of compliance\u201d are Belvedere and Clayton.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Fifteen California communities received \u201cfinal warnings\u201d from Gov.
