{"id":2402,"date":"2025-10-13T22:03:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T22:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/2402\/"},"modified":"2025-10-13T22:03:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T22:03:09","slug":"bay-area-to-see-months-worth-of-rain-in-24-hours-heres-the-timeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/2402\/","title":{"rendered":"Bay Area to see month&#8217;s worth of rain in 24 hours: Here&#8217;s the timeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rainy season has officially started in the Bay Area as a storm is expected to bring nearly a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/weather\/article\/rapid-moving-rain-thunderstorms-bay-area-21097444.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">month\u2019s worth of rain<\/a> to San Francisco in less than 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dalton Behringer, a meteorologist for the Bay Area weather service office, said most of the forecast precipitation will fall late Monday morning through the evening. In the North Bay, about a half inch of rain is expected during this storm and will arrive mostly between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, according to Behringer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco is expected to get 0.82 inch of rain, and Behringer said 90% of that precipitation will fall Monday afternoon between 1 and 5 p.m., just in time for the evening commute. Oakland is expected to get around <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=37.8051&amp;lon=-122.2731&amp;unit=0&amp;lg=english&amp;FcstType=graphical\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">0.8 inch of rain<\/a> on Monday, with the heaviest rain falling between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., although showers are expected overnight into Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Further into the East Bay, 0.88 inch is expected near <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?CityName=Walnut+Creek&amp;state=CA&amp;site=MTR&amp;lat=37.8699&amp;lon=-122.071\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Walnut Creek<\/a> through Monday evening, with the heaviest totals falling before 5 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the rain bands move south, rainfall totals are expected to increase up to 1.5 inches of rain in the Santa Cruz Mountains, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?w3u=1&amp;w7=rain&amp;w8=thunder&amp;w10u=1&amp;w11u=1&amp;AheadHour=0&amp;Submit=Submit&amp;FcstType=graphical&amp;textField1=37.7771&amp;textField2=-122.4196&amp;site=all&amp;unit=0&amp;dd=&amp;bw=\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">heaviest showers<\/a> expected before 11 p.m. Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the strongest rain passes, there will still be a chance of showers in the Bay Area throughout Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOvernight and tomorrow morning is going to be more like scattered or isolated showers,\u201d Behringer said, with most regions seeing less than a tenth of an inch of additional rain. \u201cA lucky few will get another significant, maybe a quarter inch or so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Behringer said since October is a relatively dry time of year, even substantial rainfall likely won\u2019t lead to major flooding.
