SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX 5\/KUSI) \u2014 The Trump administration has launched an investigation into the admissions policies at three medical schools, including UC San Diego.<\/p>\n
According to reporting from The New York Times<\/a>, the Justice Department informed Stanford University, the Ohio State University and UC San Diego about the investigation on Wednesday, demanding that the schools turn over data by April 24.<\/p>\n The government is asking for information on applicants for the past seven years, including things like test scores, zip codes and ties to donors or alumni, according to The New York Times article. The government is threatening to withhold federal funding if it does not receive the data by the deadline.<\/p>\n On Wednesday, Harmeet Dhillon, head of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division, posted a photo of herself on social media<\/a> signing a letter with the caption, \u201cLaunching a series of civil rights investigations. Another day in paradise!\u201d<\/p>\n An editor at Lawfare Media later posted a photo<\/a> of the letter zoomed in, which appeared to be a Title VI probe into The Ohio State University College of Medicine.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for UC San Diego told FOX 5\/KUSI in an email that the university was notified on Wednesday of the investigation and is reviewing the notice.<\/p>\n \u201cUC San Diego is committed to fair processes in all of our programs and activities, including admissions, consistent with federal and state anti-discrimination laws,\u201d the university said in the emailed statement.<\/p>\n This is not the first time the Justice Department has launched an investigation into a University of California school over things like admissions and hiring processes.<\/p>\n In June of last year, the department sued<\/a> the University of California system for alleged race and sex based discrimination in its hiring practices.<\/p>\n
