The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Del Mar-Leucadia Branch, allied with other AAUW branches of San Diego County and San Diego branches of League of Women Voters, Universidad Popular, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations San Diego (CAIR), will present an important North County Environmental and Social Justice forum on the Tijuana River Blight: Environmental Impact and Social Justice Failure, according to a news release.<\/p>\n
The public is invited to the event on Saturday, April 11, 10 a.m. to noon at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas. There will be a social time with refreshments starting at 10 a.m. and the program starting at 10:30 a.m.<\/p>\n
Stephanie Sekich, noted expert and special advisor in environmental policy to Supervisor Paloma Aguirre, will explain the environmental and social justice aspects of this catastrophe, the news release stated. Representative Tasha Boerner described this problem in the news release, saying, \u201cif this was happening anywhere else, it would be considered a major environmental disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n
All are invited to attend this vital informational forum to discover this \u201cunder appreciated crisis\u2026because of where it is occurring\u201d in the words of Senator Alex Padilla, how it affects North County as well as the rest of San Diego, and what local officials are and are not doing to respond to this catastrophe, the news release stated.<\/p>\n
