EDMONTON, Alberta \u2014 Cutter Gauthier put the Ducks within a goal in the third period, but that\u2019s as far as it went.<\/p>\n
Zach Hyman\u2019s empty-net goal with 17 seconds left iced a 4-2 victory for the host Edmonton Oiler on Saturday afternoon at Rogers Place.<\/p>\n
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Ducks (41-28-4, 86 points) and brought Edmonton (37-28-9, 83 points) within three points of their Pacific Division lead.<\/p>\n
Oilers star Connor McDavid opened the scoring with a second-period goal goal and also had two assists to regain the NHL scoring lead. Edmonton is now 27-5-5 when scoring first this season.<\/p>\n
Jack Roslovic and Matt Savoie scored to make it 3-0 in the third period, but Beckett Sennecke quickly got the Ducks on the board, with assists from John Carlson and Jackson LaCombe, who leads the team 42 helpers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey scored first, and they got rolling there \u2026 Right after, we had maybe our best five minutes of the game, and then they had most of the play over the rest of that period, and scored two goals that preventable from our part,\u201d Ducks coach Joel Quenneville told reporters after the game.<\/p>\n
Quenneville also said defensemen Radko Gudas and Pavel Mintyukov are day to day with lower-body injuries.<\/p>\n
Assisted by Jeffrey Viel and Carlson, Gauthier brought the Ducks within one at the 9:41 mark with his team-leading 37th strike, but the Ducks couldn\u2019t convert the tying tally.<\/p>\n
Lukas Dostal made 30 stops for the Ducks. Connor Ingram recorded 29 saves to earn the win in the Edmonton net.<\/p>\n
The Oilers remain without star forward Leon Draisaitl, out for the rest of the regular season with a lower body injury.<\/p>\n
