CALIFORNIA, Pa. \u2013 The Slippery Rock University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play with wins against California (Pa.), 3-2 and 11-1,\u00a0Saturday at Lilley Field.<\/p>\n
After the sweep, Slippery Rock is now 12-10 on the season with a 6-2 mark in the PSAC West, while California’s record fell to 8-16 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC West.<\/p>\n
Slippery Rock was led by Alyssa Massucci<\/a>, Aubrey Mansfield<\/a>, Alyssa Sheely<\/a>, Addie Warzala<\/a> and Jordyn Pelles<\/a>, who all had hits in both games of the doubleheader.<\/p>\n Massucci racked up the most hits for SRU on the day with a 4-for-5 showing with three runs, one RBI and one walk. Mansfield finished the sweep going 3-for-6 with three runs and one RBI.<\/p>\n Sheely, Warzala and Pelles all finished the day with two hits. Sheely went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Warzala ended the doubleheader 2-for-5 with one run and one walk. Pelles rounded out The Rock’s top performers by going 2-for-6 with one run and one RBI.<\/p>\n GAME 1: Slippery Rock 3 \u2013 California 2 The Vulcans got on the board first with one run in the first inning. The Rock tied the game in the top half of the second with Massucci’s third home run of 2026.<\/p>\n Slippery Rock took its first lead of the game with one run in the fourth inning. Mansfield led off the frame with a single, followed by double by Sheely to move Mansfield to third base. Two batters later,\u00a0 Kayla Williams<\/a> drove in Mansfield with an RBI-groundout. Like Slippery Rock in the second inning, California had a response with one run of its own, tying the game 2-2.<\/p>\n SRU found the winning run in the top of the fifth inning. Warzala reached on a leadoff walk, followed by a double from Pelles. Jessica Goldhardt<\/a>, pinch running for Warzala, scored after Maddie Cavenaugh<\/a> reached on a dropped third strike.<\/p>\n Offensively, Massucci was the lone Rock batter with multiple hits in game one with a 2-for-3 performance with one run and one RBI off the home run.<\/p>\n Mansfield ended the game going 1-for-3 with one run, while Sheely and Pelles each went 1-for-3. Warzala also reached base twice with a 1-for-2 showing with one walk.<\/p>\n In the circle, Rachel Baker<\/a> threw her seventh complete game of the season. Baker finished the contest, surrendering just two runs on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in seven innings.<\/p>\n Indyana Bolyea took the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts in seven innings.<\/p>\n GAME 2: Slippery Rock 11 \u2013 California 1 Slippery Rock started fast in game two a three-run first inning. Mansfield started a two-out rally with a single, followed by a single from Sheely and a walk from Massucci. With the bases loaded, Grace Smith<\/a> hit a bases-clearing double, giving SRU a 3-0 advantage.<\/p>\n The Rock broke the game open in the third inning with eight runs highlighted by Mansfield’s RBI-triple.<\/p>\n The Vulcans scored one run in the fifth inning, but that was all the offense they would manage as Slippery Rock closed out the 11-1 victory.<\/p>\n At the plate, The Rock had 10 different players with hits. Mansfield (2-for-3), Smith (2-for-3) and Massucci (2-for-2) all had multiple hits in game two.<\/p>\n Cavenaugh, Sheely, Deal, Warzala, Pelles, Shaylyn Shall<\/a> and Gabby Perod<\/a> each ended game two with one hit, while Cavenaugh, Deal, Mansfield, Sheely and Pelles picked up one RBI each.
