The San Diego Gulls are set to close out their season series with the Abbotsford Canucks today at Rogers Forum (4 p.m. PDT; TV: AHLTV on\u00a0FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
San Diego and Abbotsford went head-to-head last night with\u00a0Abbotsford\u00a0taking the win,\u00a05-2. The game marked the seventh matchup between the teams this season\u00a0and\u00a0tonight will be the eighth and final.\u00a0The Gulls have gone\u00a03-4-0-0\u00a0against the Canucks\u00a0so far this season and look to add another win to that record tonight.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We weren’t pretty enough to start the game, and we can be a lot more desperate than what we showed tonight,”\u00a0head coach\u00a0Matt\u00a0McIlvane\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Justin Bailey\u00a0and\u00a0Judd Caulfield\u00a0gave the Gulls a glimpse of hope as they netted goals just 85 seconds apart late in the third. Their efforts were not enough to take the win as the Canucks netted two more to secure the win.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Well, we\u00a0gave ourselves an opportunity to be in the game down three with five minutes left\u00a0and having some fight to keep pushing and get two on the board.”\u00a0McIlvane\u00a0said. “Then their fourth goal\u00a0doesn’t\u00a0need to happen.\u00a0It’s\u00a0five-on-five hockey, and we\u00a0don’t\u00a0need to be all in on those kinds of decisions.\u00a0That’s\u00a0why we\u00a0weren’t\u00a0really able\u00a0to finish.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Following last night’s loss, the Gulls stand with a\u00a029-22-8-4 record with\u00a070 points. Taking two from the Canucks tonight is essential to keep the Gulls in playoff position as the Tucson Roadrunners\u00a0closed the gap between the seventh and eighth place spots with a win last night. The Roadrunners are just one point short of catching up with the Gulls.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Gulls will next take on the Tucson Roadrunners as they return home to Pechanga Arena San Diego on Wednesday, April 1\u00a0(7 p.m. PDT).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
