The Denver Summit are making history in their inaugural season. The expansion squad welcomed 63,004 fans for its home opener at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday, the largest standalone crowd at any women\u2019s professional sports event in the United States.<\/p>\n
The game, against the Washington Spirit, ended in a 0-0 draw, despite solid chances from both teams.<\/p>\n

The Summit had previously announced that they had sold more than 60,000 tickets to the game, though an exact number was not announced until partway through the second half. Empower Field, the home of the Denver Broncos, has a capacity of 76,125, leaving the Summit just 13,000 short of selling out an NFL stadium.<\/p>\n
The number absolutely smashes the previous NWSL attendance record of 40,091, set last year by Bay FC, who welcomed that many fans in the San Francisco Giants\u2019 Oracle Park<\/a> last August. Previously, the Chicago Stars had set a record in 2024 with 35,038 fans at Wrigley Field<\/a>.<\/p>\n Saturday\u2019s home opener will be the Summit\u2019s only game at Empower Field this season. The team will play two games in Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods Park, the home of the Colorado Rapids, before moving into newly built Centennial Stadium this summer.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Denver will play the rest of the season in Centennial, which is set to be a temporary venue while the club builds a permanent stadium. The franchise closed on the property<\/a>, located at Santa Fe Yards, earlier this week.<\/p>\n Boston Legacy, the other expansion team added this year, hosted 30,207 fans for their home opener on March 14 in the New England Patriots\u2019 Gillette Stadium.
